In a stomach-churning incident, a cobra was hacked to death by the locals after it killed and swallowed a python. The incident took place in Davao del Sur, Philippines, on Wednesday afternoon.

According to local reports, Junjun, a farmer, saw the two huge snakes fighting in his rice field. The 11-foot-long cobra tried to attack the farmer but it couldn't move as it had already killed the reticulated python and swallowed it whole. Half the body of the eight-foot python was inside the cobra with only its tail hanging from its jaws. The farmer alerted the nearby residents who arrived at the field and killed the cobra using a club. They then cut open the reptile with a machete to find the python inside its stomach.

The villagers told local media that they decided to kill the cobra as several residents in the area died from cobra bites in recent years.

“There are lots of snakes in our area, but this is the first time we saw a cobra eat a python. We've had people die from cobra bites before so my neighbors killed the snake as soon as he saw it,” a local resident said.

The residents then alerted the local village officials about the incident who then reported it to the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council. The officials asked the residents to beware of snakes while working in fields. Meanwhile, a video of the incident posted on Facebook by a local resident has since gone viral.
