Huge 'GOT' Character Not Returning For Season 8, Kills Big Fan Theory
Fans have some big theories about nearly every character in the "Game of Thrones" universe, but one particular one may have officially been confirmed as not happening during the final season, as a key character for it may not be returning to the series at all.
In an interview with Metro UK, Ellie Kendrick, who portrayed Meera Reed during the show's third, fourth, sixth and seventh seasons, admitted she has yet to receive a call about returning to film for the series, and isn't sure if she will be a part of the final season at all.
"Not as far as I know. I don't know. It's funny because I always get asked, 'What's going to happen? Are you in it?' Genuinely the truth is, I don't know. I wait for the phone to ring and then I find out, but it hasn't rung so I don't know. I'll find out whether I am or not at some point, but for now I haven't been notified so I'm yet to discover."
The possibility that Meera Reed won't be seen during Season 8 officially shoots down a theory some fans had (though it always seemed to be an unlikely one), about her potentially being Jon Snow's (Kit Harington) secret twin sister, due to Kendrick and Harington's similar looks. Though the flashback to the Tower of Joy clearly only showed a baby Jon on the show, some fans still seemed to believe it was possible.
However, Kendrick's comment that she may not be in the new season, as well as comments she made in 2016, seem to indicate it was never a theory that would be revealed, and was just fans hoping it would be true.
"A lot of people told me about the Meera and Jon Snow thing," she said at the time. "That's the only one that I know about my character. I think It's just because we both have curly hair man, because if you've read the books they're not really that similar."
However, while that theory seems to have been completely shut down now, Kendrick does have some high hopes for a different one in regards to her future on the show—should she get the call.
"Absolutely no idea what's going to happen," she told Metro about the show's final season. "All I can hope for is Meera is going to come back on a dragon and be the new queen. That'd be pretty sweet for me. But somehow, not quite sure that's how it's going to turn out."
