A 13-feet-long python that was hiding in the ceiling of a spa in China fell through the roof Thursday.

The owner of the spa was shocked after finding the 42-pound reptile slithering on the ground. The owner immediately called the police who caught the reptile and left it at Zhongshan Zoo.

Speaking to local media, the owner said about 10 years ago, he had heard rumors of a huge snake hiding in the building. The rumors re-surfaced earlier this month when builders renovating the spa reported about sighting the reptile.

“I've seen people talking about the snake, but I have never seen it myself,” the unidentified owner said, adding that he had called people to catch the reptile, however, they couldn't find it.

Meanwhile, confirming the incident, a police officer said they spent about five minutes catching the reptile. The officer and his colleagues turned off the lights before covering the python with a blanket and lifting it out of the room. The snake was then put in a sack and taken away to the zoo.

Though the species of the python was not known, an expert suspected that it would have managed to live in the ceiling for these many years by feeding on rats.

Meanwhile, calling it unlikely, Qiao, a keeper at the Foshan Wild Animal Protection Centre, said, “It would have come down to the ground sometimes.”
