'The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2' Teaser Released, Will Air Before 'Insurgent' In Theaters
There are still several months to go before the final installment in Suzanne Collins' "Hunger Games" series, “Mockingjay, Part 2,” debutes. Still that hasn’t stopped the studio from whetting fans appetites with a brief animated teaser.
According to Entertainment Weekly, those who make it to the theater to see the action-packed "Divergent" sequel, “Insurgent,” will be treated to the below 47-second video.
In the clip, the classic Mockingjay symbol that fans have come to know and love begins to burn as the flames surrounding it intensify. As it does, we hear some powerful quotes from the past three movies echo out to the viewer:
“I volunteer as tribute.”
“Katniss Everdeen, the girl on fire!”
“Remember who the real enemy is.”
“Tonight, turn your weapons to the Capitol.”
These are just a few of the lines that fans of the popular dystopian universe know all too well. As the rhetoric intensifies, so too does the flames surrounding the symbol. Eventually, the Mockingjay breaks its shackles and spreads its wings in total freedom.
This potent imagery is indicative of what fans can likely expect from the final installment in the franchise. When last we left Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence), [SPOILER ALERT] her revolution based out of District 13 had dealt a major blow to the Capitol, led by the villainous President Snow (Donald Sutherland). They’d rescued Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) only to learn that he’d been brainwashed to try and kill the woman he loves.
The fourth movie will cover the back half of Collins’ third book and will likely see the District 13 revolutionaries go head-to-head in battle against Snow’s Capitol forces. If the Mockingjay’s spread wings are any metaphorical indication – it looks like the battle for freedom will somehow rest solely on the shoulders of the girl on fire.
“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, Part 2” hits theaters on November 20. Watch the animated teaser video below or click over to Entertainment Weekly to see the film’s official poster.
