Ian Somerhalder, Nina Dobrev People’s Choice Awards 2014: ‘TVD’ Stars Dish About Their Breakup, Kiss Onstage [VIDEO]
“Vampire Diaries” stars Ian Somerhalder and Nina Dobrev proved that they might just be the most cordial exes in Hollywood at the People’s Choice Awards Wednesday night when the duo stepped onstage to accept the award for “best chemistry.” The co-stars, who ended their three-year courtship in May and in recent months have been the subject of reconciliation rumors, even dished about their highly publicized relationship and subsequent split for TV viewers.
“We started dating on the show,” said Dobrev. “And then we started dating in real life,” added Somerhalder, “and then we broke up in real life.” Somerhalder, who plays vampire Damon Salvatore, went on to point out that his character is still romantically linked to Dobrev’s Elena on the supernatural CW series, to which Dobrev added, “It’s a good thing it’s not awkward.” The comment was followed by the pair humorously exchanging awkward glances at one another before Dobrev added, “Well, it’s a good thing we have chemistry.”
The duo finished off their acceptance speech with Somehalder, 35, kissing the Canadian actress on the cheek as she beamed.
Following their onstage PDA, Somerhalder posted a heartfelt birthday message to his former love on social media Thursday in honor of her 25th year. “Happy Birthday @ninadobrev !!! The world loves you! We all do ;) Enjoy the moment, enjoy the day, enjoy the year!” tweeted the actor.
In recent months, the “TVD” pair, deemed “Nian” and “Delena” by fans of their on-screen, off-screen courtship, have been rumored to be reviving their romance behind-the-scenes. Following a report from Star magazine in October that the pair were acting as “friends with benefits,” a source revealed to CelebDirtyLaundry.com earlier this month that Somerhalder has made it his mission to win back the brunette beauty in 2014.
“Ian has made it his New Year resolution to get Nina back, no matter what it takes,” revealed an insider.
