India expunges coconut oil export ban
India has expunged the ban on export of coconut oil and allowed exporters to ship coconut oil in 5 kg packets from 13 ports in India.
However, there are no quantity restrictions for the shipment from Kochi port, said India's Minister of State for Agriculture, K.V. Thomas at a function to mark the observance of World Coconut Day.
To instill interest in coconut farming among school students, a scheme has been drawn up after discussions with the Kerala state government as per which about 7 lakh coconut seedlings would be distributed to school students.
The saplings would be later purchased by the Coconut Development Board as part of a buy back scheme.
