Infant Freezes To Death After Mother Leaves Him Unattended On Balcony For Five Hours
An infant froze to death after his mother forgot him in the balcony. The unfortunate incident took place in Khabarovsk region of eastern Russia on Sunday morning.
According to local reports, the unidentified 40-year-old mother of the seven-month-old infant put him to sleep in a buggy. She then left him in outside balcony so that he could “sleep in the fresh air.” She decided to pick the baby up within a few minutes but forgot about it. She rushed to the balcony five hours later and brought the baby inside. However, it was too late as the baby showed “no signs of life.”
The boy died of hypothermia as he was exposed to temperatures of -20 degrees Celsius for over five hours. A criminal case was opened and officers were trying to find out what circumstances led to the boy’s death.
Meanwhile, following the incident, the health ministry of the region took to Instagram to advise the parents to not leave their children unattended outside.
“Always know where and with whom your child is. Do not pass by if another child is in danger - in winter a child who is lost or injured on the street can very quickly become a victim of low temperatures,” the statement read.
