Instagram Update: Disappearing, Permanent Messages Now In Direct Messages
No need to swipe between messages on Instagram anymore. Now your permanent messages and those that disappear will show up in the same place in the app thanks to an update to Direct, according to an Instagram release.
The messages that disappear will show up in the normal chat thread, although they’ll still disappear once their time expires. In their place will be a note that says “...sent a video” or “...sent a photo.”

Instagram first added disappearing messages in November and has seen an increase of 75 million people using Direct since then, said the release. The new feature will start rolling out Tuesday on iOS and Android devices, and will be available in group direct messages as well.
How to access the updated Direct feature:
Swipe left to access Direct as you normally would. Here you should see a new blue camera at the bottom of the page that will be the camera you use for disappearing media. Select either the blue camera at the bottom of the page or the blue camera next to a chat. Click the arrow and select the friends you want to send it to. Then you’ll see notifications about who has viewed the media and who hasn’t within the chat.
This update is the latest Instagram has released recently along with Facebook turning up the heat on competition from Snapchat.
