iOS 11, iPhone X Settings: How To Disable Tap To Wake, More
The Tap to Wake option on the iPhone X can be a helpful feature for users to quickly check the time or see notifications they have received, but it’s not for everyone.
Apple released last month the iPhone X, which sports an edge-to-edge OLED screen with no Touch ID. Since the iPhone X has no home button to press and wake, Apple introduced the Tap to Wake feature. With the new feature, all users have to do is tap the screen to turn on the device.
However, not everyone is a fan of the Tap to Wake feature. Accidently tapping on the device could wake up the smartphone easily. Doing it too many times by accident or on purpose can also drain the user’s battery, since the device needs to turn on the bright and colorful OLED screen.
For those who don’t want the Tap to Wake feature, there’s a way to turn it off. Here’s how to do it:
First, unlock the iPhone X and open up the Settings app.
Go to General.
Tap on Accessibility.
Scroll down and find the Tap to Wake setting.
Turn the setting toggle off to disable the Tap to Wake feature.
Users can also look up the feature by going in Settings, pulling down the screen and typing in Tap to Wake. After turning off the setting, users can test it out by turning off the screen and tapping the display. The iPhone X should not wake up when the feature is disabled. The Tap to Wake option is only available on to iPhone X users. Other iOS 11 devices, like iPads and previous iPhone models, cannot disable or turn on the feature.
How To Wake An iPhone X
After the Tap to Wake function is disabled, iPhone X owners can turn on the device using other approaches. One of those ways is to use the power button on the side. The iPhone X also wakes up when the user picks up the device through its Raise to Wake feature. That setting is available on all iPhone models after the iPhone 6s. However, the Raise to Wake feature could also drain the battery if the device is raised and awakened often.
How To Disable Raise To Wake On iOS 11
iOS 11 users who want to turn off the Raise to Wake option can follow these quick steps:
Go to the Settings app.
Tap on Display & Brightness.
Find the Raise to Wake option.
Turn the toggle off to disable the feature.
