Here’s a roundup of expected iOS 11 features and other rumors:
Siri
For iOS 11, Apple is rumored to be revamping Siri with contextual learning abilities and deep integration with iMessage and iCloud, Israeli site the Verifier reported in March. The virtual assistant is expected to get an improved level of artificial intelligence. Siri reportedly will be able to follow through with voice commands, have the ability to learn a user’s habits and offer action options based on context of content, somewhat resembling Samsung’s voice assistant Bixby.
Siri also will be more productive in iMessage by giving users restaurant recommendations and allowing people to make reservations or book an Uber within the app. For iCloud, Siri is expected to identify connections among multiple devices under an Apple ID account.
iOS 11’s Siri boost will help Apple compete with other artificial intelligence technology, including Amazon’s Alexa and Google Assistant. It was reported this year that Apple has 1,000 engineers working on augmented reality in Israel. Another report also backed the claim that Apple would revamp Siri this year.
Apple Music
iOS 11 reportedly will come with an improved Music app to propel Apple’s original video content above other streaming services. The company has already been pushing original content on Apple Music. Apple recently released its exclusive documentary on former One Direction singer Harry Styles on Apple Music, and last week it released the trailer for the upcoming documentary about Bad Boy Records, the label founded by Sean Combs. The movie, called "Can't Stop, Won't Stop: A Bad Boy Story," is set to be released June 25 on Apple Music. The company also announced its first show, “Carpool Karaoke: The Series,” will release in August.
Apple is expected to release as many as 10 original shows and documentaries by the end of this year, including will.i.am’s "Planet of the Apps" and documentaries about hip-hop label Cash Money Records and music impresario Clive Davis.
The new Music app on iOS 11 reportedly will work to direct users to original content.
FaceTime
iOS 11 also will revamp FaceTime by allowing group calls, the Verifier said in January. The FaceTime boost will help Apple against competitors like Skype and Facebook Messenger.
iOS 11 To Disrupt Apps?
Although iOS 11 could bring new features that would improve iPhones and iPads, another report said the update might terminate support for 32-bit apps, which could make those apps and older games unable to run.
You can watch WWDC’s keynote address on June 5 to see if Apple releases information on the upcoming update.
