iOS 14 Tip: How To Translate Languages In Safari Browser On iPhone
KEY POINTS
- Apple added new translation features in iOS 14
- The Safari browser now has its own native translator feature
- This comes alongside a new Translate app for the iPhone
Apple added a slew of new features to iOS 14 to improve the iPhone user experience. One of these is a language translation feature that can be used with the Safari browser.
Previously, those who wanted to translate a foreign-language webpage needed to use other websites or services, such as Google's popular Google Translate. Now, iPhone users won't have to make do with that as it has released its native translator that can be used with the Safari browser.
Safari's new translation feature is easy to use. It comes alongside new features that Apple released via iOS 14, including the new Translate app. With it, users won't have to worry about needing to use Google's translator anymore.
Here's what users need to do to translate a foreign-language website while browsing in Safari:
- First, users should open the Safari app (if they haven't yet).
- Second, once it's up and running, go to a foreign-language website.
- Third, once there, users should tap on the “aA” button. This is the translation feature's icon.
- Fourth, after tapping it, users should select the language they want the website to be translated to.
- Lastly, tap on Enable Translation.
The new feature will work to translate the foreign language into the language the user chose. It's worth noting, however, that the list of available languages isn't complete. This is because Apple gives users the ability to choose which languages they want to add to the roster.
Here's how to add foreign languages to the list:
- First, users should open Settings, then go to General.
- Second, users should select Language & Region.
- Third, once there, users should tap on Add Language... then select languages from the list shown.
- Lastly, users should tap on Keep [original language].
Users should note that the list might not include all languages, but Apple could add more options to its roster in the future. As of now, this feature is only available for U.S. users.
With iOS 14, iPhone users now have different ways to translate foreign languages into something they understand. They can use the new translation feature in Safari or the new Translate app.
