iOS 5 Jailbreak: 3GS Users Facing Problems with Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d, Nine Steps to Jailbreak with Redsn0w (GUIDE)
Apple users have long been waiting for an untethered jailbreak, from any one of the two Dev-teams. However, the release of that software will not be the last piece of action for either of the hacking teams. As soon as any such program is out, teething problems will definitely follow.
As a tethered jailbreak is available with many updates for all A4 devices, the users of these devices are still facing issues related to upgrading their basebands and performing updated jailbreak over the outdated ones.
After MuscleNerd released Redsn0w 0.9.9b9d, many iPhone 3GS users posted their problems, most of which related to being stuck with rebooting or restoring.
One 3GS user commented on iPhon Dev's blog:
I'm stucked with my 3gs (Sn 80011... 5.13.04 baseband) in white screen when i try to reboot, upgrade, jailbreak or restore.
this happened after i jailbraked 5.0.1. (it was ok except it had no signal from carrier, so i tried 5.0)
now i'm stucked no apple logo, nothing. it stays white for 5 or 10 minutes then it shuts down.
anyone has any idea?
please help me.

Here is an easy nine step guide to make your jailbreaking experience smoother...
1: Create a folder on your desktop Pwnage. Download RedSn0w 0.9.9b6 and save it in Pwnage. Likewise, download the 5.0 firmware and place it in the same folder. iOS 5 users don't need to download 5.0 firmware. Extract the RedSn0w zip file in the same folder.
2: Connect your iPhone to the computer and launch iTunes. Select your device from the list of the devices. Hold Shift and click Restore. If you are an iOS 5 user then you don't have to perform this step as you already have 5.0 firmware.
3: Launch the Redsn0w program from the folder.
4: Click on Jailbreak which will jailbreak and install Cydia.
5: Plug your iPhone into the computer and don't forget to keep it OFF. Don't click the Next button until Slide to Power Off appears and the device is switched off.
6: RedSn0w will now guide you through the steps to get into DFU (Device Firmware Update) mode.
This is the crucial stage where you have to be very alert to perform three tricky steps.
A: Hold down the Power button for 2 seconds.
B: Without releasing Power button, hold down the Home button also for 10 seconds.
C: Without releasing the Home button, release the Power button, and keep holding the Home button for 15 seconds until Redsn0w detects the device.
7: Wait for Redsn0w to reboot and prepare the jailbreak data.
8: Select Cydia from the list of options and move on.
9: Wait for rebooting again, and you will be notified that your device is jailbroken with Cydia.
