  • Apple is working on a new iPad model
  • This model will have a mini-LED display, a report says
  • This might be a new and improved iPad Pro

Apple is working on a new iPad model that uses mini-LED technology for its display and this device could be released just a few months from now, a new report reveals.

Apple’s new iPad Air comes with some of the best specs and features that the company currently offers in a tablet device. It features a new design akin to the iPad Pro and has the new A14 Bionic processor that allows it to perform very well in many tasks. And since it retails for a lower price, the new iPad Air can be considered a more affordable and power-packed alternative to the iPad Pro.

That said, Apple is already working on a new iPad model for release in the near future. The upcoming device, as per South Korean news site ETNews, is expected to have an entirely new feature that is not present in any other iPad model – a mini-LED display.

LG Display is already preparing to supply Apple with the mini-LED display panels that will be used for the new iPad models expected to be released “early next year,” the report said. The Cupertino firm is also looking to use the new display technology on other devices such as future MacBooks and the iMac, according to the outlet.

The outlet didn’t mention which iPad model will be the first to feature a mini-LED display. Earlier reports, however, hinted that it will be an iPad Pro. Whether it will be an iPad Pro or not remains to be seen. What’s clear now is that this device might be released during the first quarter of 2021, ETNews reported.

It makes sense

Although it’s too early to say if the first iPad model to feature a mini-LED screen will be an iPad Pro, it simply makes sense to think of it that way. This is because of its designation as a “Pro” device.

When the 2020 iPad Pro arrived, it had some improvements and new features over the older models. This refreshed model, however, is but a “relatively minor update” compared to Apple's revamping of the new iPad Air, MacRumors noted.

Apple simply upgraded the processor from an A12X to an A12Z, added a new Ultra Wide camera and a LiDAR scanner and enhanced other things like the device’s microphones. The revamped iPad Air, on the other hand, got massive improvements: a next-gen processor, a major redesign and more improvements over its predecessor.

The changes Apple made to the iPad Air effectively turned it into an iPad Pro killer. It’s about time for an even better Pro-level iPad to arrive.
