iPhone 12 Update: What To Expect From Upcoming Apple Device
KEY POINTS
- Apple is expected to release a new flagship lineup later this year
- The new devices might feature new display sizes, better processors, cameras and more
- Apple hasn't officially announced anything yet, so most reports are based on speculation and rumor
Apple's acclaimed iPhone 11 series have only been released a few months ago, but now fans are already looking forward to the iPhone 12 lineup. What can fans expect from the upcoming handsets? Here's a quick look.
Five new iPhones in 2020
Previous reports revealed that Cupertino could be releasing five iPhone models this year. An analyst claimed that Apple could release as much as six different models, but several other analysts, one of them being Ming-Chi Kuo, expect only five models to arrive.
Four of these iPhone models are included in the iPhone 12 lineup, if Apple does name it “iPhone 12.” One of the five expected iPhones is said to be the successor to the beloved iPhone SE.
New display sizes
Apple is expected to introduce new display sizes on the iPhone 12 series this year. Previous reports citing analysts said that Apple could release it's smallest high-end handset in recent years, as well as the biggest iPhone ever.
The smallest model is a high-end device that features a 5.4-inch display. This device is smaller than the 5.8-inch iPhone 11 Pro. The largest device is also a high-end model that has a 6.7-inch screen, which is a bit bigger than the iPhone 11 Pro Max's 6.5-inch display.
Might feature support for 5G connectivity
Analysts believe that all of Apple's upcoming flagships will feature support for 5G. This will be done using third-party components as Apple won't be able to create an in-house 5G modem until 2025, The Information reported (via CNet)
A new A14 chip
The iPhone 12 series is expected to feature a new chip that's better than the one powering current flagships. The new chip, believed to be the A14, could offer as much as up to 50% faster graphics processing power compared to the A13 Bionic. This is based on trends in recent years.
A new camera setup
The iPhone 11 series featured the best camera setup in any iPhone model to date. Apple is expected to outdo that and release a new camera setup that could feature more cameras, 3D depth sensing capabilities (as per CNet), new software and hardware technologies, and AI-based image recognition.
A higher cost
Apple's next flagships might cost a bit higher than current models due to a change in the device's manufacturing process. The iPhone 12 is said to feature an all-new design reminiscent of the iPhone 4, and its production costs will mean higher selling prices.
Of course, Apple hasn't officially announced any of the upcoming flagship models' specs at the moment. Stay tuned for more details as they come.
