Apple has designed its ecosystem so that those who have invested in its devices such as an iPhone, iPad and Mac or MacBook can enjoy transferring information between these devices without any hassle. The Handoff feature, for example, allows users to receive calls on their iPhones, and continue the conversation on his or her iPad or Mac.
Those who use several Apple devices on a daily basis will be glad to know that their login credentials, as well as their payment details, are automatically synced between the iPhone, iPad and Mac, iPhoneHacks reported. This feature is called iCloud Keychain – a password manager Apple created for iOS and macOS.
iCloud Keychain works by syncing all login credentials and payment details across Apple devices so that users won't have to worry about keeping a list of passwords. While the feature is limited to Safari and does not work with Chrome and other browsers, it's still a helpful tool for those who use Cupertino's hardware and software all the time.
Those who want to view the passwords they have stored in iCloud Keychain can do so using the following steps:
For iPhone and iPad
- First, iPhone and iPad users will need to launch Settings, then proceed to Passwords & Accounts.
- Next, users will need to tap on Websites & App Passwords, then authorize their identity via Face ID or Touch ID, depending on the device being used.
- Once authorized, iCloud Keychain will display a list of websites where the login credentials have been used. Users can tap on any website to view the details.
For Macs/MacBooks
- First, users will need to launch Safari. After that, click on Safari on the menu bar on top, followed by Preferences.
- Next, users will need to go to the Passwords tab, then authorize their identity using the Mac password or Touch ID.
- Once authorized, iCloud Keychain will display a list of websites where the credentials were used. Double-clicking on a website reveals the details. Clicking on the Share button allows users to AirDrop the details to a nearby Apple device.
iCloud Keychain will warn users if their passwords are being reused across websites. It will advise users to change their passwords if they are reused or are easy to guess, and will suggest passwords that are more secure.
