iPhone X: Online Shipping Date Wait Times Improve For Apple, T-Mobile, Sprint
Apple fans saw 5-6-week waits for their iPhone X when it first came out earlier this month, but those who buy the device now won’t have to wait that long.
Apple’s website now says the wait for an iPhone X to ship is 2-3 weeks. The improved shipping dates apply to all carriers and with both colors of the iPhone X, Space Gray and Silver.
Those who don’t want to wait weeks for an iPhone X can go to the Apple Store and pick one up instead. Consumers can also purchase the iPhone X at retail stores and with major carriers. However, there’s still a wait when purchasing the device online through carriers. AT&T’s website says customers who buy the iPhone X now can expect it between Dec 8. to Dec 15. T-Mobile has a better shipping estimate, Nov. 17 to Nov. 20, while Sprint says the iPhone X ships by Dec. 8 and Verizon delivers the device by Dec. 13.
Apple’s updated delivery estimate comes after various reports said the company's iPhone X supply would improve throughout November. Apple reportedly had trouble with production of the iPhone X in the beginning, which was due to the Face ID.
The improved shipping dates means Apple is getting ready for the strong holiday demand for the iPhone X, which had been predicted by Wall Street analysts. KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted last week Apple and its manufacturing partners would boost production for the holiday quarter to ship between 25 million and 27 million iPhone X units, and should sell between 22 million and 24 million.
During Apple’s latest earnings call this month, CEO Tim Cook assured the iPhone X’s production was coming along.
“The ramp for iPhone X is going well,” Cook said addressing previous concerns with demand. “Considering it’s the best iPhone created and with the advanced technology. We're really happy that we're able to increase week by week what we're outputting. Were going to get as many of them as possible to customers as soon as possible. I can’t predict at this point when that balance will happen.”
Apple is bracing for a successful holiday season. The company expects the fiscal 2018 first quarter to be its biggest quarter yet.
The iPhone X was released on Nov. 3 and includes a TrueDepth camera system for the Face ID and Animoji. The smartphone sports an edge-to-edge OLED display and no home button. The 64GB iPhone X version is priced at $999, while the 256GB model has a $1,149 starting price.
