  • A market survey reveals that Apple's iPhone XR is the bestselling smartphone in the global market
  • The iPhone XR bested other rivals from Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei
  • The survey also found that the iPhone 11 is the fifth bestselling smartphone in the market

Apple's iPhone XR continually trumps other smartphones even in 2019, a recent survey has found.

The iPhone XR is now more than a year old, but it still is one of the best and most popular smartphones around. The Apple handset is so popular and continually enjoys such a high demand from consumers that, according to Counterpoint Research, it is statistically the bestselling smartphone among many brands in the global market.

According to the market watcher, the iPhone XR has been the top-selling smartphone model globally since the fourth quarter of 2018. It is the bestselling Apple smartphone within the past year, and has also topped offerings from rivals such as Samsung, Oppo, Xiaomi and Huawei.

Although previous reports claimed that Apple wasn't doing so well in the Chinese market, it's a fact that the iPhone XR was able to bring revenue to the Cupertino tech giant. The tech company adjusted the iPhone XR's selling price in China, which helped to keep the demand strong during the fourth quarter of 2018.

CNet noted that it's not hard to understand why the iPhone XR is the bestselling smartphone model out there. Despite having a weaker camera and lower-quality display compared to the iPhone XS and XS Max, it offered the latest mobile chips that Apple offered at the time. The chips, coupled with the attractive $750 selling price, made the device a sure hit among many consumers.

A year later, Apple followed up with the release of the iPhone 11, which is the most affordable flagship model it currently has. The new device, which also features some toned-down specs compared to its pricier siblings, boasts of a top-of-the-line processor and even more affordable $700 selling price. These two factors allowed the iPhone 11 to become the fifth bestselling device in Q3 of 2019.

What's even more interesting to note here is that based on Counterpoint's survey, Apple's flagships, despite the public perception about them being “expensive,” continue to sell well in comparison to other flagships. Samsung's flagships, for one, didn't even make it to top ten; its midrange devices are what's making it big among many.
