Iran's War Talk: 'An American Attack on Iran Would be Suicidal'
Iran issued a verbal warning to the United States on Wednesday, claiming that the country has the military capabilities to attack American forces around the globe.
Iran's ambassador to Russia, Seyyed Mahmoud-Reza Sajjadi, told the Interfax news agency in Moscow on Wednesday that Iran would retaliate against any U.S. or Israeli strike.
The Americans know very well what Iran is like and what our potential is, Sajjadi was quoted as saying.
Iran is in a very good position to deliver retaliatory strikes on America around the world... An attack on Iran would be suicidal for them.
U.S. President Barack Obama is steadfast on using sanctions to pressure Iran to abandon its nuclear program, but said on Sunday that that nothing is off the table.
Israel has long considered the possibility of a pre-emptive strike to destroy Iran's nuclear efforts before they can develop a working warhead. Iran believes that Israel wouldn't make any military decision without the approval of the United States, and there are reports in the U.S. that Israel has agreed to call Washington before any planned strike.
I don’t think that Israel has made a decision on what they need to do, Obama told NBC. I think they, like us, believe that Iran has to stand down on their nuclear weapons program.”
On Monday, Obama signed fresh sanctions into law that put strict regulations on Iran's central bank and its foreign business partners.
