KEY POINTS

  • Israel and Palestine have descended into the most intense airstrike since 2014
  • Video clips of the airstrike are shaping the narrative on the ground
  • Israel's missile defense system firing a barrage of rockets resembles a fireworks display

In response to the massive volley of rockets Hamas has been firing on Israeli cities since Monday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has launched a fierce military offensive in Gaza, killing as many as 10 senior Palestinian militants.

As the region descends into the most intense airstrike since 2014, social media is abuzz with keyboard warriors sharing powerful video clips that could change the narrative of the ongoing airstrike in Israel and Gaza.

In a video that's been going viral for obvious reasons, Israeli men can be seen celebrating at the Western Wall in the city of Jerusalem and waving their national flag as a fire spews smoke over the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Another striking footage features Israel's missile defense system, Iron Dome, firing a barrage of rockets and lighting up the sky like a fireworks display.

A Twitter user who probably felt the magnificence of Iron Dome’s firework-like display can be justified only with the Star Wars theme song even set it to the famous composition by John Williams.

Meanwhile, the Israel Ministry of Foreign Affairs has vouched to protect its people. On Monday, the ministry tweeted: "Sending a big hug to all of the Israelis running to bomb shelters right now. We are with you and will continue to protect all of our citizens."

Speaking at a virtual press briefing on the current unrest, Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesperson Lior Haiat on Wednesday said that "Israel has the rights to self-defense and we'll act to defend our citizens. Our actions are against terrorist and the terror organization and their infrastructure," reported Asian News International.
