Jada Pinkett Smith Reveals Mother Adrienne Banfield Norris 'Never Cuddled' With Her Growing Up
Jada Pinkett Smith has discussed issues between moms and daughters on the latest episode of "Red Table Talk" on Facebook, revealing that her mother "never cuddled" with her growing up.
"One of the things that was so missing in my relationship with my mother and with Jada was just touch," Smith's mother, Adrienne Banfield Norris, admitted during the episode titled "How Destructive Mothers Damage Their Daughters: Could This Be You?" Wednesday. "Very rarely will you see Jada and I even touch, hug."
Norris disclosed that it's "awkward" to hug in their family even though they know how much they are loved, noting that "it just wasn't that kind of nurturing touch."
Smith then agreed with her mother and confessed, "She never cuddled with me."
Norris said she's now making up for it through Smith's daughter, Willow. "It felt so good to be able to have that, and I never had it. When I had it with you, then I missed it with Jada. I realized how much I miss with her," she explained.
The 50-year-old actress went on to share how she dealt with a "lot of stressful adult things at a young age," but she didn't have the "ability to deal with the emotions that were coming with it."
"I just had to buck up," she added. "So those women you see that you think are so strong, there's this terrified little girl underneath. And that's me."
Smith shared earlier this week that her "biggest wound" has been not having protection when it comes to all her relationships. Norris revealed at the time that this side of Smith was developed after her grandmother's death.
The actress, who has alopecia, made headlines in March after her husband, Will Smith, slapped comedian Chris Rock for cracking a joke on her shaved head during Oscars 2022.
On the work front, Smith appeared on the second season of "The Equalizer," whose finale aired on May 15. She will be seen in the movie "Redd Zone," which is written by Kristin Layne Tucke and directed by Matthew A. Cherry.
