Jake 'The Snake' Roberts WWE Return: Wrestler Looking To Enter Royal Rumble After Getting Sober With Help From DDP
One of the best wrestlers of all-time is looking to make a comeback in the ring. Jake “The Snake” Roberts recently told TMZ that he wants to return to the WWE.
The 58-year-old has been battling addiction for much of his life, but got clean at the end of 2012 with the help of former WCW star Diamond Dallas Page. The wrestler put Roberts on his DDP Yoga program, which has been a major part of the wrestler’s rehab.
Roberts moved into DDP’s house, which he named the “Accountability Crib,” and has been on the program for about nine months. Since he began his rehab, Roberts has gotten much healthier, losing almost 70 pounds. Before he moved in with Page, DDP says Roberts was drinking, abusing prescription drugs and smoking crack.
Now that he’s healthy, Roberts hopes a return at the 2014 Royal Rumble is in the cards. He last made an appearance with WWE in 2005.
"I will never give up,” Roberts said. “I want a life again and I am pursuing that. The Rumble will define it." Several former WWE superstars make a return at the Royal Rumble each year. In 2013, Gold Dust and The Godfather made comebacks.
Even if he can't find his way back onto WWE television, it looks like the wrestler may be on the big screen in the near future. Roberts is set to appear in a film called "Heavy Water," which is seeking funding on Kickstarter. The movie need to receive $25,000 in donations by Aug. 21.
Roberts isn’t the only former wrestler to get clean with DDP Yoga. Scott Hall has been sober for five months after his stay at the “Accountability Crib.” He recently left and is set to move into an apartment with his son Cody, who is an aspiring wrestler.
