James Franco Talks About Helping Lindsay Lohan & How He Failed: Report

Hollywood actor James Franco says his gal pal, the famously troubled Lindsay Lohan, was too out of control for even him to handle, celebrity blogger Perez Hilton reports.

Franco’s not just an actor -- he’s a filmmaker, performance artist, poet, musician, and a student of many subjects -- but he can’t seem to help his friend put her life back together.

The “127 Hours” star recently talked about inviting Lohan to appear in the R.E.M. video “Blue,” but said that after the shoot she became too difficult for him to involve himself in her life any further.

Franco tried to explain why in a statement that appeared on Hilton’s blog:

"So it was around the time of the Oscars, and I was supposed to do these two videos. And for the 'Blue' video, the original concept was to make it about two sides of L.A., the idea of L.A. as a place where people's dreams can come true, but also L.A. as a place that eats its young.

“It's something I've been interested in a lot. I've done a few projects about actors that have died young — James Dean, River Phoenix and Brad Renfro.

“Lindsay and I had reconnected at that time. I had been writing some poems about the Chateau Marmont and one or two of the poems involved Lindsay. … I've known Lindsay for a while. It was at a moment where it seemed like she was doing OK. We'd have conversations on the phone, and she seemed like she was doing OK.

“I haven't talked to her in a long time because it seemed like she was getting into some more trouble. I've tried to help her.

“I think one of the reasons it's so hard is when she gets in trouble, she gets all this attention and I'm sure she gets book offers. Like she goes to jail, and instead of feeling like I really hit a low place, she'll get a crazy offer for her jail memoir."

Franco might have a point considering Lohan seems to respond to negative attention the most.

If she wants to get better, Lohan needs to stay out of trouble and surround herself with people who really want to help her, but unfortunately it seems the “Liz & Dick” actress has been unable to do so.

Lohan is currently facing jail time after lying to police in Los Angeles about a car accident and getting into a public fight in New York City, which got her probation revoked.
