James Gunn Teases How Important The Guardians Of The Galaxy Are In ‘Avengers: Infinity War’
The cosmic and earth bound superheroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe will soon collide. The Guardians of the Galaxy are part of “Avengers: Infinity War,” but as indicated by the film’s title, fans shouldn’t expect them to steal the spotlight. “GotG” director James Gunn teased the ragtag team’s involvement in the 2018 film.
“You know listen, I don’t think we should overstate things that it is an ‘Avengers’ movie,” Gunn told Complex. “But the Guardians are a part of the cosmic universe, they’re a part of Thanos’ stories, so, they are in there, and they have, not the biggest, but, an integral part to that.”
Thanos, of course, appeared in the first “Guardians of the Galaxy” film, and his daughters are in both movies. Gamora (Zoe Saldana) and Nebula (Karen Gillan) will explore their familial bonds more in “Vol. 2,” which hits theaters May 5.

“What I love about the second movie for Nebula in particular is that we get — We know that she’s a pretty angry woman with some daddy issues,” Gillan told TheWrap in January. “[But] in the second movie, we’re going to start to see how much pain her father actually caused her, and we’re going to delve right into the relationship with her sister Gamora.”
Their bonds might be explored further in “Avengers: Infinity War.” Both Gamora and Nebula are reportedly appearing, and their father Thanos (Josh Brolin) will definitely appear. He is the villain in “Avengers: Infinity War,” and he will be trying to get the Infinity Stones to help destroy the universe. It isn’t exactly clear yet, however, if Nebula will be helping him or her sister.
Gunn also serves as an executive producer on “Infinity War,” but he didn’t really connect the two films. As previously reported, he revealed that “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2,” much like last fall’s “Doctor Strange,” is self-contained. He did not feel any pressure from Marvel to link the film to future Marvel projects.
“Avengers: Infinity War” hits theaters May 4, 2018.
