Jamiroquai lead singer Jay Kay denied the speculations that he attended the protest at the Capitol.
Several netizens found a close resemblance of one of the rioter's Viking horns to Kay's headgear that he wears during performances. The Jamiroquai frontman addressed the issue and made it clear that it was not him.
In a short video on Twitter, he briefly talked about the speculations about him allegedly being of the MAGA supporters at the Capitol riot. "Good Morning Washington, loving the headgear, but not sure that's my crowd. Stay safe everyone, J xxx," he wrote in the caption.
"Now some of you might be thinking you saw me in Washington last night but I'm afraid I wasn't without those freaks," he said in the video.
Kay went on and greeted his followers with a Happy New Year. He also opened up about his birthday. The "Virtual Insanity" singer celebrated his 51st birthday on Dec. 30.
"Just to say, yeah Happy New Year to all of you," he said. "I haven't seen you for ages! Thank you for your birthday messages 51," he said while flicking his hair before adding, "Few grace darling," while laughing.
The singer then gave his fans an update on the band. They were planning to continue with their tour but couldn't do it due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
"Yeah, we'd like to get back on the road. But, of course, we can't because we are lockdown. Haven't seen the band for ages, so big hug to them and just to say, COVID-19 is still going on UK lockdown."
He then briefly switched to discussing animal rights.
"The way we treat our animals, farming them, caging them, all the rest of it, we’re just going to keep getting this again and again. Hopefully, we’ll try and learn our lesson," he said before ending his message.
"Aside from that, Happy New Year and a big hug to you all," he said while giving a thumbs-up sign. "Stay with it, see you later! Bye!" he winked and ended the video.
Kay was forced to address the issue because several netizens thought he was one of Trump’s supporters. "Didn't I just see a pic of Jay Kay at the Capitol building?" one asked on Twitter.
