  • Jane Fonda said some women who had a lot of cosmetic procedures look "terrible"
  • "So, I had a facelift and I stopped because I don’t want to look distorted": Fonda
  • People should put a premium on good health over physical attractiveness, she said

Oscar-Winning actress Jane Fonda is opening up about why she bid her facelift goodbye in favor of embracing the beauty of aging.

“We all know a lot of women who are wealthy who’ve had all kinds of facelifts and things like that and they look terrible,” Fonda, 84, told Vogue. “So, I had a facelift and I stopped because I don’t want to look distorted. I’m not proud of the fact that I had [one].”

Earlier in 2020, Fonda had already made it clear she is done with having a facelift and told Elle Canada, “I can’t pretend that I’m not vain, but there isn’t going to be any more plastic surgery—I’m not going to cut myself up anymore.”

The “Grace and Frankie” actress is firm on her decision to completely turn her back on the knife and warned others about the perils of getting addicted to plastic surgery. In addition, she wants people to make good health a priority over physical beauty.

“Now, I don’t know if I had it to do over if I would do it. But I did it. I admit it, and then I just say, okay, you can get addicted. Don’t keep doing it. A lot of women, I don’t know, they’re addicted to it.” she told the outlet. “I want young people to stop being afraid about getting older. What matters isn’t age, isn’t that chronological number. What matters is your health.”

The former fitness guru recalled her dad dying at a certain age due to heart disease and how it influenced her perception of aging.

“My dad died six years younger than I am now. He seemed so old because he was ill. He had heart disease. I’m not ill. So I’m almost 85, but I don’t seem that old…just because you’re a certain age doesn’t mean you have to give up on life, give up on having fun, give up on having boyfriends or girlfriends, making new friends, or whatever you want to do,” Fonda added.

These days, Fonda enjoys having a simple and stress-free beauty routine. “I don’t do a lot of facials. I don’t spend a lot of money on face creams or anything like that, but I stay moisturized, I sleep, I move, I stay out of the sun, and I have good friends who make me laugh. Laughter is a good thing too.”
