‘Jane The Virgin’ Star Gina Rodriguez Reacts To People's Choice Awards Nomination
“Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez has just been nominated for the People’s Choice Award for Favorite Comedic TV Actress, thanks to her role as Jane Gloriana Villanueva in The CW series.
Rodriguez is overwhelmed by the nomination and has taken to Instagram to share her joy and thank her fans.
Rodriguez is up against other bigwigs such as Anna Faris, Kaley Cuoco, Sofia Vergara and Zooey Deschanel. This is actually Rodriguez's first nomination for the People's Choice Awards. Back in 2015, the show itself won in the category for Favorite New TV Comedy.
Meanwhile, her character has really taken a big leap this Season 3 after she lost her virginity to husband Michael Cordero (Brett Dier). Rodriguez even told Entertainment Weekly that fans will see a different side of Jane now that she has lost her virginity. Since she has preserved it for so long, losing it will make Jane feel like she lost a bit of herself as well, and it is definitely “going to play into her life, her psychology, how she views herself and how she views her intimacy.”
Meanwhile, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman told The Hollywood Reporter that they’re going to put interesting twists to the title week after week, depending on the storyline, because the “Jane the Virgin” title is no longer applicable.
“We're keeping the title but with changes, like a line crossed through, like ‘Jane the Guilty Catholic,’” she explained.
Urman added that it just felt like the right time for Jane to lose her virginity, so there’s no reason for them to continue dragging it on. She believes the show still has a lot to offer in terms of storyline without requiring Jane endure another sex-less season.
“We put her through enough and we pulled as many frustrating stories about the fact that she's a mom and now married and still a virgin,” she said. “I just felt like now was the time. I didn’t have any drama or comedy left in that device.”
“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 airs every Monday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
