'Jane The Virgin' Star Gina Rodriguez Says She Will Not Lose Weight To Keep A Job
“Jane the Virgin” star Gina Rodriguez is truly an inspiration. She refuses to compromise to Hollywood’s standards for beauty, and she often encourages her fans to embrace their personal looks and not conform to anyone else’s preferences.
In today’s culture where every girl is obsessed with losing weight, the Latina actress told Self that she would never dream of losing weight just to nab a role.
When she accidentally lost weight after “Jane the Virgin” got picked up, Rodriguez actually felt concerned and not happy.
“After Jane shot the pilot and we got picked up, I got the hardcore flu,” she said. “I lost 15 pounds - and I’m Puerto Rican, you don’t lose 15 pounds. I was emaciated.”
Even the show’s executives did not like seeing Rodriguez’s weight drop, and the actress was grateful for their support.
“The head of my network and the show creator sit me down, and they were like, ‘Why have you lost weight? You know we love you the way you are. The way you were was perfect,’” she recalled.
So after recovering from her flu, Rodriguez got back to eating stuff she loves, such as pancakes and chilaquiles. “They say I can eat, so I’m eating!” she said.
For Season 3 of the show, the fate of Jane’s new husband Michael Cordero (Brett Dier) still hangs in the balance.
Even Rodriguez was hard pressed for any spoilers, and she simply told Wet Paint, “I think you're going to see Michael. I don't know if he's alive or dead, but you're going to see him.”
On the other hand, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman told ET that Jane is finally going to have sex next season.
“Yes, yes, yes - it's happening!” she happily confirmed. “She’ll lose her virginity this year for sure.”
Given Jane’s strong church values, it’s safe to assume that she’ll only have sex with her husband. Hopefully, Michael makes a speedy recovery so he’ll finally enjoy his honeymoon with Jane as well.
“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 will premiere on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 9 p.m. on The CW.
