‘Jane The Virgin’ Star Jaime Camil On Rogelio Being A Stay-At-Home Dad
Rogelio De La Vega (Jaime Camil) was on the verge of letting his career soar in “Jane the Virgin” Season 4, but he opted instead to let it go so he can dedicate himself full-time to his baby, Baby.
Camil personally thought it was sweet of Rogelio to prioritize his daughter. However, he told Yahoo News that the actor is “nothing” without his work. “Let’s put it this way: It will not be the wisest work and personal decision that Rogelio will make,” he said.
He even teased that Rogelio will become a “danny” - which is a hybrid for daddy/nanny. But Rogelio being Rogelio, this role will only last for a couple of hours.
“Rogelio is a very loving father, and he loves his family and will do everything for them,” he said. “When you become a father for the first time, it can take time to get used to the dynamics of being a dad. Rogelio will struggle not because of lack of love, but because his life dynamic is so different from being a stay-at-home dad.”
Camil even revealed how guest star Brooke Shields, who plays River Fields, enters into Rogelio’s life and becomes his nemesis.
“Being a ‘danny’ is already demanding enough, imagine having to deal with another nemesis the stature of Brooke Shields!” he said. “Rogelio struggles to be a ‘danny,’ and he tweets, ‘I think I’m having postpartum depression.’ And River [Shields’s character] attacks him on social media and calls him stupid, and they argue.”
River might be mean towards Rogelio, but in real life, Camil said Shields is nothing but nice. “We were all in love with her when we were teenagers. Name one male specie that wasn’t in love with her in ‘The Blue Lagoon.’ It’s incredible,” he told People. “Her most important quality is what a sweetheart she is and what a beautiful human being she is. She is overwhelmingly nice.”
Shields will appear in five episodes, which would start on Feb. 9.
“Jane the Virgin” Season 4 airs Fridays on The CW at 9 p.m. EST.
