'Jane The Virgin' Star Jenna Ortega Considers Gina Rodriguez, Justin Baldoni Her Role Models
Jenna Ortega, the actress who portrays the younger version of Jane Gloriana Villanueva on The CW show “Jane the Virgin,” always has a great time on the set, and it’s all thanks to her inspirational co-stars.
Ortega told Bustle that she feels privileged to work with the show’s star Gina Rodriguez because she always learns a lot from her.
“She is one of the sweetest people you will ever meet and I think she’s a great role model for young Latinas like me,” she said.
Ortega is grateful that Rodriguez is always promoting the talents of Latinas, because acting opportunities for them have only gotten better after “Jane the Virgin” became a success.
“When I first started acting, there weren’t a lot of roles for Latinas out there. Now opportunities are growing and I’m seeing all of these Latinas rise and it makes me happy,” said Ortega.
Aside from Rodriguez, Ortega is also thankful for Justin Baldoni's positive influence on her. The actor, who recently released the second season of his three-part docuseries called “My Last Days,” plays Rafael Solano in the series.
Ortega even posted about Baldoni’s work on her Instagram account (@jennaortega). “Rushing home from #Disneymix to watch the last part of #MyLastDays. I’m so unbelievably proud of you @justinbaldoni! You’re such a good man and a positive role model.”
Baldoni earlier talked about his project with PEOPLE, saying it is all about the lives of six individuals with terminal illnesses. Despite their conditions, these individuals still have an insatiable thirst to live life, therefore, inspiring viewers to do the same.
“It's a show about living told by those who are dying in an effort to prove that you don't have to find out you're dying to start living,” Baldoni explained. “Don't wait to take on your bucket list because you don't know … tomorrow is not guaranteed.”
“Jane the Virgin” Season 3 will premiere on Monday, Oct. 17, at 9 p.m. on The CW.
