Janet Ji Young Choi Missing: LAPD Investigating 19-Year-Old Girl's Disappearance [PHOTO]
The Los Angeles Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating Janet Ji Young Choi, who has been missing since Saturday after leaving her home.
Choi, a 19-year-old student at Fairfax High School, has her family concerned after she didn’t show up to her Saturday art school class, the Los Angeles Times reported.
“This is very unusual for Ms. Choi,” the LAPD said in a statement."Ms. Choi's family is extremely worried and concerned for her safety.”
She was last seen around 11:50 a.m. Saturday leaving the Los Angeles apartment where she lives with her mother, CBS Los Angeles reported.
“She wants her daughter back without any problem,” family friend John Kang told the station. “Since Saturday, there has been no contact whatsoever. That’s why her mother is really worried.”
Kang added to KABC, "She is not like this. She never caused a problem in school and when her mother contacted the school today, they were shocked because she is a model student and never even had a problem whatsoever at school."
Choi’s mother, Jessica Lee, said her daughter’s friends have no information about the 19-year-old’s whereabouts, adding that Choi doesn’t have a Facebook account.
“She’s shy, never outgoing, and more of a regular school girl who doesn’t go out and party or anything like that,” Kang said.
Foul play is not suspected so far in Choi’s disappearance, according to CBS Los Angeles. Police searched the 19-year-old’s computer but didn’t find anything that would be helpful to their investigation.
Choi was described as Korean and having black hair and brown eyes. She is 5-foot-3 and weighs about 90 pounds.
Anyone with information on Choi’s disappearance was urged to call Det. A. Mercado of the LAPD’s Missing Persons Unit at 212-996-1800. Tipsters can also call 1-877-LAPD-24-7 during non-business hours.
