  • Padalecki was shocked when he got called to shoot a wedding scene out of the blue

Jared Padalecki got candid about the worst scene he has filmed so far and how it changed the way he approached his career.

In an interview with Chicago Tribune on Wednesday, the "Supernatural" star recounted a "nightmare" experience he had in his acting career. It happened when he was filming "Gilmore Girls," and it was because of his lack of preparation.

"I didn't shoot every day on 'Gilmore Girls,' and on this particular week, I wasn't needed on set until Friday," Padalecki shared.

The 39-year-old star, who played Dean on the show, stayed out late with his friends thinking he had no schedule the following day. He was up until "three or four in the morning." However, Lauren Graham, who was supposed to film at the time got sick, so the production decided to move her scene and film something else instead. They chose to shoot Dean and Lindsay's (Arielle Kebbel) wedding.

Padalecki was still asleep when the crew called him, so they had to call one of his friends to wake him up. He shared the harrowing details that followed after he woke up.

"I had 20 missed calls and text messages. … I shot out of bed, had a cup of coffee and a water, jumped in the shower and then drove over to Warner Bros. I was probably two hours later than they were hoping and I didn't have the scene prepared, but I knew the basics of what was going on," Padalecki continued.

He felt lucky because he didn't have many lines and had the time to learn his dialogue during hair and makeup. The incident still lingers on the "New York Minute" star's mind, and it forever changed how he would prepare himself before filming a scene for a project.

"It was basically the feeling of that nightmare where you're naked at school," Padalecki said. "Except unlike being naked at school, this was naked at school and there are cameras everywhere and it will be on film for all time. So now, these days, I'm known for my over-preparation. If there's any scene in the episode we're shooting, I know it backward and forward, because I don't want to have that feeling again."

Despite the traumatizing experience, Padalecki has great memories with his "Gilmore Girls" co-stars and has remained friends with some of them, including Milo Ventimiglia. The latter played Jess and competed with his character, Dean, in winning Rory's heart in Season 2, sparking the Team Dean vs. Team Jess debate. According to the "This Is Us" star, he had always been "Team Dean."

"Jared and I are really good friends," Ventimiglia, 44, said on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" after fans noticed the "I Heart Dean 4EVER" sign in his office.

Padalecki responded by sharing a photo of him holding a sign that read "I Heart Jess 4Ever" on Instagram. "Ohmigod @miloanthonyventimiglia, our offices are SO SIMILAR!!" he wrote in the caption.

"I f—kin love you bro," Ventimiglia replied.
