“Game of Thrones” actor Jason Momoa was slammed on social media Thursday after a video clip surfaced in which he said he loved working on the show because he got to “rape beautiful women.” The video appeared to come from a 2011 panel at Comic-Con.

“As far as sci-fi and fantasy, the genre, there’s so many things you can do [with it],” Momoa can be heard saying. “Rip someone’s tongue out of their throat and get away with it, rape beautiful women.”

The audience laughed raucously at Momoa’s comments, while those on stage with him appeared to hang their heads in embarrassment at the “joke.” Social media users were enraged Thursday when the clip surfaced, denouncing Momoa’s comments and slamming the actor for the words.

“Jason Momoa is cancelled,” one user tweeted. “Goodbye, sir.”

Others appeared to defend Momoa’s joke and said he had apologized for it.

“Jason Momoa made a rape joke,” one person tweeted. “Yes. It wasn’t funny. But he also apologized profoundly for it. Seriously. Yall need to learn to forgive.”

Momoa touched on the subject in a more serious way during a 2011 interview with the New York Post when he was asked about the “Game of Thrones” scene where his character forces himself on another character.

“Yeah, I’m raping Emillia [Clarke, who plays Daenerys,]” he responded. “I love her, but I’m hurting her and she’s crying. We could have made it longer, but you get the idea. I’m not a rapist. I prefer my women to enjoy sex.”
