Jay-Z Disses Kanye On 4:44 Album: 5 Signs Their Bromance Was Always Flawed
Jay-Z used his latest album 4:44, which released Friday, as a platform to snub his longtime friendship with fellow rapper Kanye West. The first track on the album, titled "Kill JAY-Z," references the rant West's made against Hov at a concert back in November 2016.
The rapper also called out West on "Kill JAY-Z" for his behavior, which has been heavily criticized by the media and fans alike for years.

"I know people backstab you, I feel bad too/But this 'f— everybody' attitude ain't natural/ But you ain't the same, this ain't KumbaYe/ But you got hurt because you did cool by 'Ye/ You gave him 20 million without blinkin'/ He gave you 20 minutes on stage, f— was he thinkin'?/ 'F— wrong with everybody?' is what you sayin'/ But if everybody's crazy, you're the one that's insane," Jay-Z rapped.
During a Sacramento stop in November for his Saint Pablo tour, West took time out of his set to give one of his famous extensive rants. In it, he decided to address impending issues he's had with Jay-Z and his wife Beyoncé.
"I’ve been sent here to give y’all my truth even at the risk of my own life, even at the risk of my own success, my own career," West said to his audience. "I’ve been sent here to give y’all the truth. Jay-Z — call me, bruh. You still ain’t called me. Jay-Z, call me, Jay-Z — I know you got killers. Please don’t send them at my head. Just call me. Talk to me like a man."
Since this rant and a similar one in October 2016 the "Famous" rapper made about Hov, West and Jay-Z's friendship has appeared to be increasingly strained.
Were West's 2016 rants the first sign of trouble? Here are five indicators hip-hop bromance was never perfect:
Jay-Z's Reason For Signing Kanye
In a 2009 interview with XXL Magazine, Jay-Z discussed what led to his decision to bring West to his label Roc-A-Fella Records.
"Let's first clear this thing about Dame and Kanye and all of us," he said. "We all had a conversation about Kanye and whether to sign him. No one knew what would become of Kanye. Not Dame, not me [and] not Biggs. So we all sat down and said, 'Let's at least sign so we can keep the tracks in-house. It’s only good business.'"
In other words, Hov's team had ownership over Ye's music. If things went south, his music under Roc Nation would probably not be his to keep after everything was said and done. It's a fate that several rising musicians have encountered, including R&B singer JoJo and rapper Bow Wow, according to BuzzFeed.

Kanye Disses Jay-Z & Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" Collab
When Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake's "Suit & Tie" hit the scene in 2013, West addressed his dislike for the popular track at a New York City concert, according to Billboard.
"I got love for Hov, but I ain't f—ing with that 'Suit & Tie. I hate business people," West shared with the audience. "People get on the phone with me and tell me, 'What kind of business can you do, though? What type of business are you doing? What's the numbers? How much did you sell? What's the radio spins? How much shampoo can you sell with your face on it and s—. Remind me again why we in this sh-t. Can you remind me again why we in this sh-t? Since when [is] making music about getting rich? Since when was making art about getting rich?...Remind me again why we in this sh-t. Remind me again why the Grammys couldn't suck my d— ."
This was only the beginning of his 10-minute long rant.
Beyoncé and Jay-Z Pass On The KimYe Wedding
Considering Bee Z (Beyoncé and Jay-Z) have made several public appearances with KimYe (Kim Kardashian and West), it was odd that Bee Z didn't show up to KimYe's Florence, Italy wedding in 2014.
Two months after the momentous occasion, West addressed his famous friends' absence during a July interview with GQ magazine.
"All that, I wouldn’t even speak on. It doesn’t even matter to me whatsoever, who would show up. Because the most important person to show up there, to me, was Kim. And that’s all that matters to me," he told GQ. "I had to fight for that for seven years. But the fact that these other people showed up that are from such different worlds but have done such dynamic things they’re all, in a way, equal to what Kim has done in TV or what I had done in music."
Beyoncé And Kim Kardashian Reportedly Don't Get Along
For years, rumors have alleged that Beyoncé and Kardashian have never gotten along, but they tolerated each other within social settings. However, a source confirmed the rumors to Page Six in 2016, claiming Beyoncé has allegedly "never genuinely liked Kim."
"She's mostly tolerated her because of their husbands' friendship and [their] mutual friends, like Jennifer Lopez," the source told Page Six. "She is always a little icy to Kim. The last time they hung out, the minute Beyonce could leave the conversation, she did. They always have lots of awkward pauses."
During an interview with Power 105.1's The Breakfast Club in 2015, West addressed the alleged drama between the two "powerful women."
"They love each other. They respect each other. When Beyoncé's working on her album, she has pictures of Kim on the wall because Kim represents powerful women," the rapper told The Breakfast Club hosts. "Kim plays '7/11' for our daughter. They definitely respect each other. But maybe there's a LeBron James/Kobe [Bryant] element to it, but I can't say that."
Basically, West hinted that there is a rivalry between the two, but he didn't clarify how deep it goes.
Jay-Z Misses The Old Kanye
Like Ye himself, Jay-Z misses how Kanye used to be.
Kareem ‘Biggs’ Burke, a fellow found of Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records, set the record straight on the feud between the hip-hop bros in a 2016 interview with Page Six.
"The last I saw [West], he spoke really highly of Jay. I'm not sure about the relationship at this point. I spoke to Jay [after Kanye’s rant] and we're both just like, 'We miss the old Kanye,'" Burke told Page Six. "From what I know of Kanye, he’s usually really honest. So it sounds like something he's going through right now. He may [say] something like that, and then three weeks later he may be back to, 'That's my brother.' But at this point, with everybody's career, we’re a little too old for rap beef.'"
