- Beyonce's husband believes that when his kids feel supported, anything is possible for them
Beyoncé's husband, Jay-Z, got candid about his family life in a rare interview where he spoke about what he believes is most important for their children.
The "Empire State of Mind" rapper and the "Lemonade" singer share three children together, Blue Ivy, 9, and twins Sir and Rumi, 3. According to Jay-Z, the most important thing for them is to ensure that their children feel supported no matter what they want to do.
"Feeling loved is the most important thing a child needs, you know?" he told The Sunday Times. "Not 'Here's this business that I'm going to hand over to you, that I'm creating for you.' What if my child doesn't want to be in music or sports? I have no idea, right? But as long as your child feels supported, and feels loved, I think anything is possible."
Jay-Z had the opportunity to spend time with his wife and kids during the COVID-19 pandemic and the experience made him realize that family "is your foundation."
At present, his priority is to "just make sure we provide a loving environment, be very attentive to who they want to be."
"It's easy for us, as human beings, to want our children to do certain things, but we have no idea," he noted. "We're just guides."
When asked about his own legacy, Jay-Z said he hopes his kids would speak of him the way people do for Bob Marley and other music legends. However, he stressed that it's not for him to say it. But his proudest moments were overcoming his circumstances and providing opportunities for people "who came from the same situations that I've come from."
Jay-Z opened up about his marriage to Beyoncé in 2017 when their marriage hit rock bottom. He admitted at the time that they had to tear down what they had and start again.
"This is my real life. I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn't totally built on the 100 percent truth and it starts cracking," Jay-Z was quoted as saying by E! News. "Things start happening that the public can see. Then we had to get to a point of ‘OK, tear this down and let’s start from the beginning.’ It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done."
