JC Penney Store Closings 2020: 13 More Locations Set To Close [Complete List]
Bankrupt JC Penney is closing an additional 13 stores, adding to the 136 locations that were previously announced to close by the retailer.
Liquidation sales at the 13 stores are expected to begin on July 13. Store closures are dependent on approval by the bankruptcy court as part of JC Penney’s restructuring plan.
Temporary store hours will continue at these locations, operating from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.
JC Penney has plans to close 242 stores after filing for bankruptcy in mid-May. The company has struggled in recent years under about $4 billion in debt.
The company closed all of its stores temporarily in March amid the coronavirus pandemic and furloughed the majority of its employees the following month. JC Penney has been reopening its stores as state and local guidelines allow.
