In a horrifying incident, a teen slaughtered five family members with an axe before taking his own life. The incident took place in Patrikeevo, Russia, on Sunday.

The incident came to light after the neighbors alerted the police as they did not see the family tending their vegetable garden Sunday morning. The mutilated bodies of the five family members were found inside the home. Police said the teen, identified as 16-year-old Timur Kimaletdinov, axed to death his mother, four-year-old twin siblings and his grandparents before jumping from a telephone transmitter mast.

Police found a note on the dining table in which the teen said he loved his family especially his grandparents and it was a “pity” he would murder him. The note also said he decided to kill them because he did not want them to be “sad” about losing a close relative. It was reported that the grandparents tried to fight back when the boy attempted to kill them, while his mother and siblings were killed in their sleep.

People close to the family said the teen was a bright student and “the pride of his close-knit family” and that the teen’s mother “adored” her children. Local reports stated that the teen’s mother was divorced from her husband.

Though the exact reason behind the incident was not known, one of the teen’s friends said he was “jealous” about his mother spending too much time with his younger siblings and was also upset that she used him as a “nanny” to look after the twins.

A source said the teen had told his schoolmate about his intention to kill his family but his words were not taken seriously. The investigation was ongoing.
