Jeanne Moreau Quotes: Iconic French Actress Found Dead At 89

Iconic French actress Jeanne Moreau was found dead at her Paris home aged 89, the district's mayor told Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Monday. She was best known for playing the role of Catherine in the François Truffaut film "Jules et Jim" in 1962.

Moreau won several awards in her 65 years of career, including the best actress award for "Seven Days... Seven Nights" at the Cannes Awards in 1960. She has worked with several famous directors, including Michelangelo Antonioni, Orson Welles, Luc Besson and Rainer Werner Fassbinder. Welles had previously described her as "the greatest actress in the world."

Born in Paris, Jan. 23, 1928, Moreau also chaired the Cannes Film Festival jury in 1975 and 1995. Her acting career began with theatre performances. In the 1950s, she moved to films. She was honored with a 1965 Time magazine cover story after rising to prominence in the mid-’50s. She became an international star after starring in her second film for Malle, the racy “Les Amants,” in 1958.
