The plot of "The Morning Show" may mimic Matt Lauer's real-life firing from "Today" in 2017, but according to Jennifer Aniston, it wasn't difficult to tell that particular story.

Aniston, who stars as news anchor Alex Levy on the new Apple TV+ series, sat down with the Australian "Today" show on Wednesday to discuss her newest project. As reported by Daily Mail, during the interview the former "Friends" actress was asked if she found it hard to do the series due to the similarities between the fictional world and what actually happened to Lauer, who was fired from NBC in 2017.

"No. We, of course, know that has been an issue. It's a lot of men. Mitch [Kessler, played by Steve Carell] is like the archetype of this man that we are telling the story of," Aniston said.

Additionally, she revealed that she thought writer Kerry Ehrin's decision to open the series with Mitch's story was a brave choice to make.

"I thought it was brave and bold of her. Why avoid the elephant in room?" the actress asked.

Both Aniston and Reese Witherspoon, who also appears in the new series as reporter Bradley Jackson, prepared for their parts in very intentional ways before stepping into the roles.

To get a handle on how the world of morning news operates, Aniston revealed that she spoke with "CBS This Morning" host Gayle King and had dinner with former "ABC World News" host Diane Sawyer in order to learn a bit more about what goes on behind the scenes. For her part, Witherspoon also stated that she spent time with news producers so that she could see how things were really done.

"The Morning Show" is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
