Jennifer Lopez was grateful when she accepted the Generation Award at the 2022 MTV Movie & TV Awards Sunday.
The "Marry Me" star took the stage at Los Angeles' Barker Hangar and accepted the golden popcorn trophy. In her acceptance speech, she mentioned that she had a "different kind of list of thank-yous."
"I want to thank all the people who gave me this life. I want to thank the people who gave me joy, and the ones who broke my heart," Lopez said, People reported.
"The ones who were true, and the ones who lied to me," Lopez continued. "I want to thank true love, and I want to thank the way that I lied to myself, because that's how I knew that I had to grow."
The "On the Floor" singer was also thankful for the "disappointment and failure for teaching me to be strong," and she acknowledged her children, 14-year-old twins Max and Emme, "for teaching me to love."
Lopez thanked those who didn't believe that she could do it. She also thanked her fans, who have been very supportive from the start.
"You are the reason that I am here, and that I have been here, and I love you!" an emotional Lopez said to her fans.
Lopez also mentioned her manager, Benny Medina, and thanked him for her successful career. The "Hustlers" actress said she rarely mentions his name because he "doesn't like me to talk about him. He wants to be in the background."
"He is more than just my manager. If there was one person who believed in me from the beginning and the first time I played him a little demo of a song that I have written that day, and he never let me stop believing in myself, it was him," Lopez said while pointing to Medina, who was watching her deliver her speech at the side of the stage.
Lopez said that Medina was by her side when she was at the lowest point of her life. She recounted a moment when she was so down that "I kept going more for you [Medina] than for myself, and I love you, thank you."
The "Let's Get Loud" songstress said her manager was the "true meaning of ride or die." The singer-actress thanked more people and gave her fiancé Ben Affleck a shoutout when she was about to end her speech. "Ben and everybody at home, wait for me to have dinner. I will be home by 7!" she concluded.
Lopez and Affleck got engaged for the second time in April, a year after they reunited after 18 years. She also paid tribute to the "Batman" star with her manicure last week that matched the green engagement ring she received from him.
