Jennifer Lopez Introduces Daughter Emme Using They/Them Pronouns During Duet, Receives Praise

Jennifer Lopez is a supportive mom.

The 52-year-old pop superstar brought out her 14-year-old daughter, Emme Muñiz, to perform with her on stage at the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation's Blue Diamond Gala, held at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles Thursday.

One video shared on TikTok from Thursday's event showed Lopez introducing Muñiz using they/them pronouns before the mother-daughter duo performed Christina Perri's "A Thousand Years."

"The last time we performed together was in a big stadium like this, and I ask them to sing with me all the time, and they won't. So this is a very special occasion," Lopez was quoted as saying by Just Jared. "They are very, very busy. Booked. And pricey. They cost me when they come out. But they're worth every single penny because they're my favorite duet partner of all time. So if you will indulge me."

Lopez sported a floor-length, feather-trimmed robe that matched her aqua bra and pants ensemble. Muñiz, who sported a hot pink button-down shirt and matching oversized shorts, held a rainbow-colored microphone during their performance.

Social media users praised the "Let's Get Loud" singer for being a supportive mother and left sweet comments for her and Muñiz.

"Emme is so brave. They're only 14. And you can see it in JLo's eyes. She's so proud of her daughter," one person commented on the TikTok video.

"I'm sure they go by they/them pronouns, and JLo was making sure that was known without just flat out saying it because some people are not kind," another fan wrote.

"I'm guessing Emme identifies as [non-binary]. Glad that JLo is respectful of Emme's pronouns," another added.

"I love how us mothers will support our children no matter what! I love this, go Emme," a fourth user wrote.

Muñiz also sang along with Lopez to Bruce Springsteen's "Born in the U.S.A." and performed a solo section of their mom's hit song "Let's Get Loud."

The teen performed the same song with their mom during Lopez and Shakira's 2020 Super Bowl halftime show.

In Lopez's Netflix documentary "Halftime," the singer-actress detailed the disagreement she had with the NFL over her decision to have her daughter sing from inside a cage.

"We left rehearsal and I noticed everybody was freaking out, but I don't know why," Lopez recalled, Entertainment Weekly reported. "I get a call from [my manager] Benny [Medina], and he's like, 'They want to pull the cages.' That night, the higher-ups at the NFL saw it for the first time and they're like, 'Hey, you can't do that.'"
