Jennifer Lopez Pulls Out Of 2014 World Cup Opening Ceremony Performance
Jennifer Lopez is no longer performing the official 2014 World Cup song, FIFA officials confirmed on Sunday. The singer, who recently performed her first-ever Bronx show, has pulled out of the opening ceremony performance scheduled for Thursday.
The international superstar was expected to sing the 2014 World Cup official song, “We are One (Ola Ola)," alongside rapper Pitbull and Claudia Leitte, a Brazilian artist. Lopez, 44, also collaborated with Pitbull for her hit 2012 song “Dance Again.”
"Regretfully Jennifer Lopez will not be attending this year's World Cup opening ceremonies," her rep told CNN in a statement late Sunday night. While her rep did not offer a reason, FIFA says it’s due to unspecified “production issues.”
This year’s World Cup song has already sparked controversy, as Pitbull and Lopez are American Latinos, and speak Spanish and English in the song, and not Brazil’s Portuguese. Though Leitte is Brazilian, she only sings a few seconds at the end of the song in her native language.
