Jimmy Fallon Mourns Mom's Death, Cancels 'Tonight Show' Filming
Jimmy Fallon is taking some time off work to mourn the loss of his mother.
On Sunday, Fallon announced the death of his mother, Gloria Fallon, and that he has decided to cancel filming of the "Tonight Show" for the entire week. "Today I lost my biggest fan," Fallon told Us Weekly in a statement.
NBC showed support for Fallon by extending their condolences. In addition, the network also announced that the tapings for Fallon's "Tonight Show" have been canceled for the week of Nov. 6 to 10.
"On behalf of everyone at NBC, we extend our deepest condolences to Jimmy and all his family at this time of enormous loss," the network said in a statement on Sunday. "Our hearts go out to Jimmy and everyone else whose lives were so touched by Gloria Fallon's love, kindness and support."
Fallon's mom passed away on Saturday, just a day after the popular host decided to cancel the Friday shoot of "The Tonight Show." According to a report, the comedian was by his mom's side when she passed away.
"Jimmy Fallon's mother, Gloria, died peacefully on Saturday. Jimmy was at his mother's bedside, along with her loved ones, when she passed away at NYU Langone Medical Center in NYC," Fallon's spokesperson told ABC News. "Our prayers go out to Jimmy and his family as they go through this tough time."
"Jimmy comes from a very close-knit family, and together with his loved ones they are by her side right now," another insider told Us Weekly.
Aside from NBC, a number of his celebrity friends reached out to Fallon to show their support to the host.
"Mom is the first audience and the best. Remembering Jimmy Fallon and his family in our prayers today," Stephen Colbert wrote on Twitter. The "Late Show" host lost his mom in 2013 while he was hosting his own show on Comedy Central, Fox News noted.
"Heartbroken for your loss @jimmyfallon," Terry Crews wrote in a tweet.
Meanwhile, Terri Irwin believes that Fallon's mom is a beautiful soul considering her son's kind nature. "She must have been a beautiful soul because her son has such a kind and loving heart," the "Bindi the Jungle Girl" star wrote on Twitter.
