JK Rowling: I ‘Seriously’ Considered Killing Ron Weasley
Here's a scary thought for Halloween: JK Rowling confessed that she did seriously consider killing Harry Potter's best mate Ron Weasley.
That's right, the acclaimed author of the phenomenal bestselling series almost killed off its most beloved ginger.
Rowling made the admission during an interview with Daniel Radcliffe for the Special Features section of the DVD for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, the popular Harry Potter Web site Mugglenet.com reported.
Funnily enough I planned from the start that none of them would die, she said of the main trio. Then midway through, which I think is a reflection of the fact that I wasn't in a very happy place, I started thinking 'I might polish one of them all,' out of sheer spite.
So when exactly was Ron supposed to kick the bucket?
Rowling said she would have killed Ron off midway through the series.
Oh, the horror! How would Harry have coped without his best bud? Would older brother Fred have been spared? And what would have become of Hermione Granger? Would she have moved on and married someone else or would she be traveling around the world, trying to seek relief from unbearable heartbreak?
Thankfully, Harry Potter fans do not have to worry. The British mother of three decided to spare one of her most lovable characters. The last time fans saw Ron and Hermione, they were happily married with two children.
It's a real relief to be able to talk about it all, Rowling told Radcliffe.
See her confession for yourself!
