John Mayer Reveals If He'll Pursue Acting Career After Cameo In BJ Novak's 'Vengeance'

John Mayer may accept more movie roles in the future — but only if his friends are offering.

Mayer, who has a cameo role in his friend B.J. Novak's forthcoming darkly comedic thriller "Vengeance," shared why he joined the project and revealed if he will pursue an acting career during an interview with Entertainment Tonight on the red carpet of the film's Los Angeles premiere.

"I like being in my friends' movies," the "Gravity" crooner told ET. "I don't really have a brain for acting. I like when my friends call me and say, 'You wanna do stuff?'"

He went on to boast, "I'm my own agent for film," before seemingly hinting that he would be open to potential future collaborations with his friends in the film industry.

"It happens just when friends go, 'Hey, I have an idea for you.' I go, 'Yeah, I'll do it.'" Simple as that!" he said of his approach to accepting a project.

Mayer also gushed over the talent and creativity of Novak, who wrote and directed "Vengeance."

"B.J. is very thoughtful on where he wants it to go," he explained while discussing the film's opening scene, in which he appears.

The singer, who acts as "a parody" version of a rock star, described the scene as "a great moment between two guys that are smart but dumb."

"The way we are talking it's like we are only ever listening to ourselves talk," Mayer joked.

"Vengeance" also stars Novak, Dove Cameron, Ashton Kutcher, Boyd Holbrook, Issa Rae and Isabella Amara. Eight-time Grammy winner Finneas O’Connell makes his debut as a film score composer with the film.

Novak told Billboard that it was Mayer who connected him and O’Connell.

According to the actor, he met O’Connell when he stopped by Mayer's house a few years ago while Mayer was doing his Instagram Live show "Current Mood" with Billie Eilish's brother as a guest.

After Novak texted his producer Nicholas Kraft to say they'd met, Kraft told him to ask O’Connell to score "Vengeance."

"And I was like, 'What? I'm not going to ask him to score 'Vengeance.'' And, I don’t know, maybe one drink later… I asked him: 'Did you ever think of scoring a movie?'" Novak recalled.

O'Connell told the music magazine that he had a "fun" time working with Novak, who makes his directorial debut with the film.

"As a person who was really a novice, having a director who was also doing it for the first time was awesome," the singer-songwriter said. "I felt like there were no preconceptions. It was really fun."

"Vengeance" hit theaters this Friday.
