'John Wick: Chapter 3' Starts In New York City, Director Confirms
Filming of “John Wick: Chapter 3” has been completed, and the early promotion work for the film has already begun. In a recent interview, director Chad Stahelski teased some details about the plot and where the film begins. The success of the upcoming film should open the door for more movies from the franchise in the future.
“John Wick 3” will pick up from right where the sequel left off, with John (Keanu Reeves) being hunted by assassins across the country for killing a man on Continental Hotel grounds. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Stahelski confirmed that the first part of his upcoming film is set in New York City.
The first part of the film will focus on John attempting to escape New York while being hunted by assassins everywhere. He will also be busy lining up the assets that he will need in order to get out of the problem he is in currently.
One of the first-look pictures of the film posted on the official Facebook page of the film shows John with scars on his face, making his way through what appears to be New York City.
Fans of the franchise may already know that this journey will eventually take him to the Middle East. The one person who can help John is Sofia (Halle Berry), someone who has a past with John.
One major character who will not be coming back in the third installment is Cassian (Common), a character who played a big role as an antagonist to John in the sequel. According to CBR, reports suggesting that the character will be back are wrong.
In the interview, Stahelski said that he enjoys making “John Wick” movies and doesn’t mind making these movies for the rest of his career. He explained that they create their own mythology in these movies, and the studio has a hands-off approach. The studio also reportedly supports the director in his “wacky” decisions.
The future of the franchise is in the hands of the audience, Stahelski explained. For his part, the director said that both he and Reeves have ideas about the future movies after “John Wick: Chapter 3.” If the fans decide to watch the next film and demand more content, the director is happy to oblige.
“John Wick: Chapter 3” will be released on May 17, 2019 in the U.S. The script was written by Derek Kolstad.
