Fans of the "Top Gun" movie franchise haven't been able to learn much about the upcoming 2020 film as much of it has been kept relatively secret. However, actor Jon Hamm recently revealed some behind-the-scenes details regarding the choices in technology and filming techniques.

When speaking to Collider, Hamm, 48, divulged that director Joseph Konsinski is utilizing some unique choices when it comes to the ways in which he is shooting the upcoming action flick.

"They're using some technology on this that is never been seen. We're shooting the movie in, I think, 6K. So it's incredibly hi-def. The aerial footage is mind-blowing. And it's mostly practical. There's not a lot of CG. Those guys are really up in planes and getting thrown around in multiple Gs," Hamm said.

Continuing, he opened up a bit about how it feels to walk on sets that are "practically identical" to those from the original 1986 film.

"It's been a very strange experience but it's been a wonderful experience as well. It's basically getting the whole team back together. Unfortunately, [original director] Tony Scott is unavailable, but they've achieved a very similar vibe to the first one."

He then shared how he thinks fans of the original "Top Gun" will take to this new addition to the franchise.

"I think it's gonna be, for the people who love the first movie, I think it's gonna be very interesting to watch. It very much takes the story in a different direction. But I think for the new fans it's gonna be something very cool, too. I've seen some of the footage, it is out of this world."

According to Cinema Blend, Hamm's character in "Top Gun: Maverick" remains a mystery. As of now, only three characters have been officially revealed: Tom Cruise's Peter "Maverick" Mitchell, Val Kilmer's Thomas "Iceman" Kazansky, and Miles Teller's Bradley Bradshaw.

"Top Gun: Maverick" will hit theaters on June 26, 2020
