Jonah Hill Praised By Fans After Slamming Tabloid Over Shirtless Photo, ‘Public Mockery’
Jonah Hill is receiving praise from fans for opening up about his body image struggles after a tabloid published shirtless photos of the actor during a trip to the beach.
On Friday, Hill posted a photo of an article from the Daily Mail, which featured shirtless photos of the 37-year-old while surfing in Malibu, California.
In the caption, Hill opened up about how the media caused him to struggle with his self-esteem due to his fluctuating weight.
“I don’t think I ever took my shirt off in a pool until I was in my mid 30s even in front of family and friends. Probably would have happened sooner if my childhood insecurities weren’t exacerbated by years of public mockery about my body by press and interviewers,” Hill wrote in the caption.
“So the idea that the media tries to play me by stalking me while surfing and printing photos like this, and it can’t phase me anymore is dope. I’m 37 and finally love and accept myself.”
Hill went on to explain that it wasn’t a “good for me” post or a “feel bad for me post.” Instead, he shared the photos for children who may be battling body image issues.
“It’s for the kids who don’t take their shirt off at the pool. Have fun. You’re wonderful and awesome and perfect. All my love,” he wrote.
Hill’s name began trending on Twitter on Saturday with fans praising the actor for his decision to speak out about how he has overcome the negative attention placed on his weight over the years.
“I think it is seldom actually spoken among men how they also often feel insecure about their bodies, especially if they've ever been heavy-set (I know I still am, tbh.). So I have nothing but praise for Jonah Hill for this and his positivity against being shamed by a tabloid rag,” the individual wrote.
Another person added, “So proud of Jonah Hill and love seeing my tl filled with guys talking about their experiences with body image and how they’ve learned to love themselves. Just wow.”
Meanwhile, one fan admitted that Hill’s post gave him the motivation to continue his journey of self-acceptance.
“I’m 20, and this has always been my biggest insecurity and recently, a couple of months ago I learned how to live & love myself. So things like this really lighten my day up and push me to go forward. Jonah Hill is a beautiful soul and an inspiration!” the individual wrote.
Along with the support of fans, Hill also received words of praise from a few Hollywood celebrities, including Justin Timberlake, Johnny Knoxville, and Judd Apatow.
