Joss Whedon’s Fan-Made Website Shuts Down Amid Ex-Wife Kai Cole’s ‘Hypocrite’ Allegations
Joss Whedon’s fan-made website Whedonesque.com has shut down after 15 years of operation.
A day after Whedon’s ex-wife, Kai Cole, called him a hypocrite for preaching feminist ideals, the popular fan site has decided to bid farewell to their avid readers. “15 years is a long time and a lot of water has flowed under the bridge. But now it’s time to say goodbye. No more threads after this one, we’re closing down,” the final message on the site read.
In the column that she wrote for The Wrap, Cole claimed that she suffers from complex post-traumatic disorder after Whedon confirmed to her that he had multiple extra-marital affairs with other women throughout their 16-year marriage. The admins of the website are urging fans to donate to organizations that cater to people suffering from the disorder.
Cole recounted in detail how uncomfortable it was for her to see her ex-husband acting very closely to other women. “He always had a lot of female friends, but he told me it was because his mother raised him as a feminist, so he just liked women better. He said he admired and respected females, he didn’t lust after them. I believed him and trusted him. On the set of ‘Buffy,’ Joss decided to have his first secret affair,” she wrote.
Whedon’s ex-wife also claimed that the director had been involved with some of the actresses, co-workers, fans and friends that he got to know throughout the years. However, Cole did not reveal the identity of Whedon’s mistresses.
Meanwhile, a 2006 script for “Wonder Woman” that was written by Whedon was leaked online and drew criticism among readers at the time. Some of them called him out for being sexist due to the character description and dialogue for the male lead character Steve Trevor. The role was later on given to Chris Pine, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
As of late, Whedon has not yet responded to his ex-wife’s allegations. The writer-director is currently finishing re-shoots for “The Justice League” movie, which he became director of after Zack Snyder’s exit. Whedon is also developing the upcoming “Batgirl” movie with Warner Bros. and DC.
