  • Julian Assange set to launch NFT project
  • He has collaborated with digital art creator Pak
  • The NFT series would launched Feb. 7

Amid the barrage of public figures and celebrities launching their own non-fungible tokens, or NFT, series, Julian Assange has also stepped into the game. The official Twitter handle of WikiLeaks announced that Assange would be collaborating with popular digital artist Pak to bring out the series.

The funds would be used to free Assange from prison.

Assange is an activist and the founder of WikiLeaks. WikiLeaks got into trouble after it published a series of leaks provided by U.S. Army intelligence analyst Chelsea Manning. After being indicted for violating the Espionage Act for his role in obtaining the documents, and facing extradition, Assange took refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London for seven years until 2019, when he was arrested by the U.K. authorities.

He is currently being held at the HM Prison Belmarsh in the U.K., and recently made headlines when he won permission to appeal in the U.K.'s Supreme Court against his extradition to the United states.

Pak, who was formerly known as Murat Pak, is an anonymous digital artist, graphic designer and programmer. Many people speculate that Pak is not a single individual but rather a group of people. Their NFT 'Merge' sold for a whopping $91.8 million in just 48 hours in December.

The NFT series from Assange and Pak's collaboration, 'Censored,' would launch Monday. The funds collected from sale would be donated to the Wau-Holland Foundation. The foundation has raised millions of dollars to support Assange and his cause.

According to a tweet by Pak's official account, "Censored is a collaboration with Julian Assange. It's about you. It consists of two parts, a dynamic 1/1 and a dynamic open edition, for you all to participate. It will be here on February 7th."

The NFTs are a series of dynamic limited-edition ones with an image that changes over time based on smart contract data, Decrypt reported.

"For me it's about freedom, and this time my medium is a case," Pak said during a Discord discussion, the report said.
