  • Liverpool and Everton ended with a goalless draw Monday
  • Klopp has hailed Liverpool goalkeeper for the result
  • The Reds need five points to be sure of the title

Jurgen Klopp has hailed “world-class” goalkeeper Alisson Becker after the Brazilian ensured Liverpool FC did not drop points against Everton in their Premier League encounter.

Returning after a three-month coronavirus break, Liverpool resumed soccer with a goalless draw in Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Monday. The Reds, who needed six points to secure the 2019-20 Premier League title, managed to go just a point closer to the moment, which has been eluded to their fans for three decades now.

With the draw against Everton, Klopp broke Bob Paisley’s record of most Merseyside Derby games unbeaten. The two were tied on 10 before Klopp surpassing and now the German stands at seven wins, 4 draws, and zero defeats against neighbors.

While Liverpool did not have a close chance of scoring at Goodison Park on Monday, the hosts had a brilliant chance but Liverpool goalkeeper Becker ensured his side maintained their unbeaten streak against these opponents.

Everton's 23-year-old forward Dominic Calvert-Lewin flicked the ball from a close-range flick but was kept out by Becker before midfielder Tom Davies' shot from the rebound struck the post.

“We should not take him [Alisson] for granted. Absolutely outstanding. That's what a world-class goalkeeper is - nothing to do for pretty much 90 minutes then he's there,” Klopp said in the post-match interview.

Liverpool can clinch their first-ever Premier League title or their first league title in 30 years against Crystal Palace at Anfield, provided Manchester City lose to Burnley on Tuesday at Etihad.

Speaking about Liverpool’s result against Everton, Klopp said, "The point is one we deserve. Everton were well organized so we had to run a lot but we looked fit and ready. Now we've got three days. Crystal Palace looked good on Saturday and we have to make sure we are ready for Wednesday.”

Liverpool were without the likes of Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson in Everton game but the Reds are sure the two key players will be ready for the Palace encounter. The Goodison Park match also saw Liverpool’s James Milner and Joel Matip suffer injuries and were withdrawn before half-time and during the second half respectively.

However, Klopp has ensured that their injuries were not serious and they would be OK to go for the home match Wednesday.
